What Is MERV Rating?

Classification Of Welding Filters According To MERV Rating

MERV Rating 13 To 16 - This is ideal for general welding purposes, where the particle sizes can vary from 0.005 to 20 micrometers. Therefore, most particles in fumes are well below 1 micrometer. With this MERV rating, a welding filter can remove airborne particles with 75 percent efficiency, striking a fine balance between airflow and effectiveness. 

MERV Rating Of 16 And Above - If there are specific welding applications where the particle sizes are even smaller or if the particles are particularly hazardous, such as chromium or cadmium, then welding filters of higher MERV rating are required. These can filter out fumes with 95 percent efficiency.
