Choosing the Right Pleated Air Filter
Pleated air filters are required for a variety of different applications. In most cases, they are chosen because of the higher levels of filtration they provide, thus being more suitable for industrial environments where workers encounter a lot of dust and debris.
With that said, it is important to choose the right pleated air filter. Here are two main factors to consider:
SIZE
Like most filtration products, pleated air filters come in a range of sizes that you can choose from. There will be a length, width, and height measurement to consider. These standard sizes can work well for almost all applications. However, if you have unique measurements you need to cater to, consult with your filtration service manufacturer. Manufacturers such as Dynamic Filtration are able to provide customized sizing. Most of the time, we recommend having custom filters made, especially if you intend to use them in industrial settings.
MERV RATING
The Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, or MERV, indicates the efficiency of filtration. The higher the rating is, the more able it is to filter out smaller and smaller particulates. There are advantages and disadvantages to consider when it comes to choosing the right MERV rating for your needs. A higher MERV will result in cleaner air, but because the filtration material is so dense, it may cause airflow issues. Consult extensively with your manufacturer to decide on the best type of filter to use that strikes the balance you need in terms of airflow and air quality.
These are the two biggest measures to consider when selecting a pleated air filter. That said, most industrial filters are custom-made nowadays. At the end of the day, it is difficult to make these decisions all on your own without consulting with experts.
